<h2>Course Assignments and Exams</h2>

Each assignment will link to the landing page for that assignment that has the information for completing that assignment, its rubric, and due date.>
<h3>Submitting Assignments</h3>
All assignments, unless otherwise announced, MUST be submitted to the designated area of Canvas. Do not submit an assignment via email. Assignment due dates follow Arizona Standard Time. Access the <a href="http://www.thetimezoneconverter.com/">Time Converter</a> to ensure you account for the difference in time zones.
The major assignments for this course will be automatically routed through Turnitin, a web-based plagiarism detection service. This service generates an originality report that identifies all material in the student paper that appears to be derived from other sources, including both sources that are properly acknowledged and cited and any that are not. The report will be reviewed before your assignment is graded. 
<h3>Late or Missed Assignments</h3>
Define your course policy for late or missed assignments.
Students who participate in university-sanctioned activities that require coursework or due dates to be missed should be given alternative due dates considerate of their time away. Instructors should attempt to provide opportunities for alternative due dates, either before or after the absence from class participation, in accordance with any academic unit or college requirements which may apply. Absence from class participation due to university-sanctioned activities does not relieve students from responsibility for any part of the coursework required during the period of the absence. The student should inform the class instructor early in the session of any required absences and make arrangements for alternative due dates within a reasonable time. Additionally, the specific activity program coordinator should, as early as possible, provide the college-designated individual with the schedule of any student who may be absent from class participation because of a university-sanctioned activity. <h3>Attendance and Participation <Adjust as needed></h3>
<Instructors have authority to decide whether class attendance is required. Although students should be strongly encouraged to attend and engage in class regularly to enhance learning, that need should be balanced against public health concerns associated with sick students attending classes. Below is a sample attendance policy. If these policies are linked to grades, make the link explicit (i.e., how many points) to avoid student grade appeals.> 
Attendance and participation in class activities is an essential part of the learning process, and students are expected to attend class regularly. Some absences are, however, unavoidable. Excused absences for classes will be given without penalty to the grade in the case of (1) <a href="https://www.asu.edu/aad/manuals/acd/acd304-02.html">a university-sanctioned event religious holidays</a>; (2) (a list can be found here <a href="https://eoss.asu.edu/cora/holidays">Religious Holidays and Observances</a>; (3) <a href="https://public.powerdms.com/ASU/documents/1560515">work performed in the line-of-duty</a>; and (4) illness as documented by a health professional.
Anticipated absences should be communicated to the instructor by <indicate the means of communication> at least <X days> before the expected absence. Absences related to illness should be documented by a health professional and communicated to the instructor as soon as possible by <indicate the means of communication>.
Excused absences do not relieve students from responsibility for any part of the course work required during the period of absence. Faculty will provide accommodations that may include participation in classes remotely, access to recordings of class activities, and make-up work.

Students must submit assignments on due dates by the time stated in the course schedule (Arizona time). Students are responsible for reading the schedule, noting due dates, and planning accordingly. All work must be turned in on time.

Students must refrain from uploading to any course shell, discussion board, or website used by the course instructor or other course forum, material that is not the student's original work, unless the students first comply with all applicable copyright laws; faculty members reserve the right to delete materials on the grounds of suspected copyright infringement.
<h3>Prohibition of Selling Class Notes</h3>
Students may not share outside the class, upload, sell, or distribute course content or notes taken during the conduct of the course. In accordance with <a href="http://www.asu.edu/aad/manuals/acd/acd304-06.html">ACD 304-06 Commercial Note Taking Services</a>, written permission must be secured from the official instructor of the class in order to sell the instructor's oral communication in the form of notes.  Notes must have the notetaker's name as well as the instructor's name, the course number, and the date.

ASU Provost Recommended Language
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, including tools like ChatGPT, are being used in workplaces all over the world to save time and improve outcomes by generating text, images, computer code, audio, or other media. Use of AI tools is generally welcome and even encouraged <note: this could say “required” in some instances> in this class with attribution aligned with disciplinary guidelines. AI tools might be employed to brainstorm, draft, edit, revise, etc. I will provide examples of how to properly cite use. Any submitted course assignment not explicitly identified as having used generative AI will be assumed to be your original work. Using AI tools to generate content without proper attribution will be considered a violation of the ASU Academic Integrity Policy, and students may be sanctioned for confirmed, non-allowable use. <h3><a href="http://www.asu.edu/aad/manuals/acd/acd304-04.html">Medical Withdrawals</a> </h3>
ASU Medical Withdrawal Policies:

<li aria-level="1">Medical withdrawals are available when the student’s own serious illness or injury prevents them from continuing their classes.  Both physical and mental health difficulties are covered.</li>
<li aria-level="1">Compassionate withdrawals are available when other personal reasons (such as care of a seriously ill child or spouse or a death in the immediate family) prevent the student from continuing in classes.</li>
<li aria-level="1">Students who do not meet the standards for medical or compassionate withdrawals may still be eligible for an academic record change to change their grade to a W in one or more classes.  The effective date on an academic record change should reflect the last date of active participation in the class.</li>

<h3>Grade Appeals </h3>
The official ASU grade record resides in My ASU, not on the course site. At the culmination of each course, you should verify your current student record and final course grades through My ASU. If you see a discrepancy between the grade posted on the course site and in My ASU, please notify your instructor immediately so that the discrepancy can be addressed in your official record. 
The professional responsibility for assigning grades is vested in the instructor of the course and requires the careful application of professional judgment. A student wishing to appeal a grade must first meet with the instructor who assigned the grade to try to resolve the dispute. The process for grade appeals is set forth in the <a href="https://catalog.asu.edu/appeal">Grade Appeal Policy and Process</a>. 
<h3>Course/Instructor Evaluation </h3>
Course/instructor evaluations are conducted online during the 14 days prior to the last official day of classes each session. Watch for an email to your official ASU email address, with "ASU Course/Instructor Evaluation" in the subject heading. Please be certain to complete the evaluation for your assigned instructor/co-instructor. Completion of the evaluation is not required for you to pass this class and will not affect your grade, but your cooperation and participation in this process is important and appreciated. 
The evaluations are used to:

<li> help administrators evaluate instructional quality; </li>
<li> ensure high standards of teaching; and </li>

<h3>Expected Student Behavior</h3>
Required behavior standards are listed in the<a href="http://www.asu.edu/aad/manuals/ssm/ssm104-01.html"> Student Code of Conduct and Student Disciplinary Procedures</a>,<a href="http://www.asu.edu/aad/manuals/acd/acd125.html"> Computer, Internet, and Electronic Communications policy</a>,<a href="https://www.asu.edu/aad/manuals/ssm/ssm104-02.html"> SSM 104–02</a> policy against threatening behavior, per the Student Services Manual, “Handling Disruptive, Threatening, or Violent Individuals on Campus”, and outlined by the<a href="https://students.asu.edu/srr"> Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities</a>. Anyone in violation of these policies is subject to sanctions. 
<a href="http://www.asu.edu/aad/manuals/ssm/ssm104-02.html">Students are entitled to receive instruction free from interference</a> by other members of the class.  An instructor may withdraw a student from the course when the student's behavior disrupts the educational process per<a href="http://www.asu.edu/aad/manuals/usi/usi201-10.html"> Instructor Withdrawal of a Student for Disruptive Classroom Behavior</a>.
<h4>Campus Courses (for immersion courses only) <adjust as needed></h4>
Arrive on time for class. Excessive tardiness will be subject to sanctions. Under no circumstances should you allow your cell phone to ring during class. Any disruptive behavior, which includes ringing cell phones, listening to your mp3/iPod player, text messaging, constant talking, eating food noisily, reading a newspaper will not be tolerated. The use of laptops (unless for note taking), cell phones, MP3, IPOD, etc. are strictly prohibited during class.
<h4>Appropriate Online Behavior <adjust as needed></h4>
Netiquette, appropriate online behavior, is defined by the instructor and includes keeping course discussion posts focused on the assigned topics. Students must maintain a cordial atmosphere and use tact in expressing differences of opinion. Inappropriate discussion posts may be deleted by the instructor. Students are also held to the <a class="inline_disabled" href="https://provost.asu.edu/sites/g/files/litvpz671/files/page/2541/ogc-acd125-2017.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ACD 125: Computer, Internet, and Electronic Communications Information Management Policy</a> as well as the <a class="inline_disabled" href="https://provost.asu.edu/sites/g/files/litvpz671/files/page/2541/abor-5-308-student_code_of_conduct-2017.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ABOR Student Code of Conduct and the University’s Technology Access Policy</a> even though you are in a digital environment. 
The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities accepts <a class="inline_disabled" href="https://eoss.asu.edu/dos/srr/filingreport" target="_blank" rel="noopener">incident reports</a> from students, faculty, staff, or other persons who believe that a student or a student organization may have violated the Student Code of Conduct. 
<h4>Policy Against Threatening Behavior </h4>
All incidents and allegations of violent or threatening conduct by an ASU student (whether on or off campus) must be reported to the ASU Police Department (ASU PD) and the Office of the Dean of Students. If either office determines that the behavior poses or has posed a serious threat to personal safety or to the welfare of the campus, the student will not be permitted to return to campus or reside in any ASU residence hall until an appropriate threat assessment has been completed and, if necessary, conditions for return are imposed. ASU PD, the Office of the Dean of Students, and other appropriate offices will coordinate the assessment in light of the relevant circumstances. <h4>Reporting Title IX Violations</h4>
<a class="inline_disabled" href="https://www.asu.edu/about/title-ix" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Title IX</a> is a federal law that provides that no person be excluded on the basis of sex from participation in, be denied benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity. Both Title IX and university policy make clear that sexual violence and harassment based on sex are prohibited.  An individual who believes they have been subjected to sexual violence or harassed on the basis of sex can seek support, including counseling and academic support, from the university.  If you or someone you know has been harassed on the basis of sex or sexually assaulted, you can find information and resources on the: <a class="inline_disabled" href="https://sexualviolenceprevention.asu.edu/faqs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sexual Violence Awareness, Prevention and Response website</a>.
