Taking time to create assignments with automated grading is a great investment for instructors. Setting up conditional scoring and feedback in advance lightens the grading load. Instructors and TAs can spend more time on meaningful engagement and feedback during the term.

Perusall

Perusall is a versatile engagement and assessment tool, available to all ASU courses. Students read and annotate learning materials (articles, videos), submit files, and take quizzes. These components can be combined to create a multi-part assignment, making the most of autograding features.
Instructors can fully customize grading, including metrics for engagement time, student comments and interactions, peer rubric scores, and quizzes. Uniquely, Perusall offers an algorithm-based quality score for student comments. Read more about automatic grading configuration in Perusall.

Harmonize

Harmonize is a discussion tool available to ASU Online courses. It allows instructors to set multiple participation “milestones” and automatically passes grades to Canvas, requiring fewer actions by the instructor. It even allows grading for late submissions. Playposit

PlayPosit is an interactive video platform that allows instructors to embed activities and quizzes into videos from platforms like YouTube, Vimeo, and Khan Academy. iClicker

iClicker is a great way to engage your students with learning materials. Activities and questions can be embedded into lectures, or used outside of class time to assess understanding and participation. These activities can be graded, to assess. Yellowdig

Yellowdig is a community-building tool that combines a traditional discussion board with social media features. Yellowdig integrates with Canvas and allows instructors to view analytics on engagement. The robust grading features make it effective at scale, including high enrollment classes.
